Arsenal Struggling To Sign Dan Bentley As New Deal Emerges
Arsenal have received a major blow in their pursuit of Dan Bentley as Wolves are offering him a new deal to continue at the club.
According to a report from The Sun, Arsenal are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper before the start of next season. Mikel Arteta wants to sign someone who can help cover for David Raya when needed and Wolves Dan Bentley is on their wishlist. While they are keen on bringing him back to the club, the Gunners are struggling to strike a deal with Wolves.
Bentley was part of the Arsenal youth setup before he embarked on a new journey with Southend United back in 2009. He has had quite a few decent spells with multiple top clubs over the years. On the back of his performances for Bristol City, he made the move to Wolves in the winter of 2023.
Jose Sa is the preferred choice in goal at the Premier League club and Bentley has been restricted to just nine appearances over the last 18 months. With him hardly getting any game time at Wolves and his contract running out in 2025, there has been a lot of talk about his future.
Arsenal finding it difficult to sign Bentley
Quite a few clubs seem interested in signing the 31-year-old and his former club Arsenal are one of them. The Gunners are expected to part ways with Aaron Ramsdale who has fallen down the pecking order at the club following the arrival of David Raya.
The English international seeks regular first-team action which no longer seems possible at the North London club. With him leaving, Mikel Arteta’s team want to bring in a new backup keeper for Raya and they feel Bentley could be an ideal fit.
With his contract running out they could push for a bargain move and since he has been a part of their youth ranks back in the day, he still has a lot of connections at the club. But, the Gunners seem to be struggling to sign him.
They consider the asking price set by Wolves to be too high and more importantly, they have suffered a massive blow as Wolves are offering him a new deal to continue at Molineux. While it hasn’t put off Mikel Arteta, they have started to look at other options.
