Chiefs players and Andy Reid to take part in Kansas City Chiefs Christmas film
The Kansas City Chiefs’ 2024 season won’t be limited to games.
Beyond the three-peat dream, KC has taken advantage of the hype the franchise is riding to try something new.
The Chiefs have teamed up with the Hallmark Channel to release a Christmas movie.
Named ‘Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story’, the film doesn’t yet have a definite release date, but it will be aired at the 15th annual Countdown to Christmas event in December.
This isn’t really about the romance between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, despite what the title suggests. The term “love story” could have been inspired by one of her songs, however.
Reframing Christmas Day after last year
In 2023, Kansas City played one of its last regular season games on Christmas Day, against the Las Vegar Raiders.
KC lost the game 14-20. The defeat, according to many players in the squad, was the wake-up call they needed to realise they couldn’t face anything like that in the playoffs.
This year, the franchise will once again play a game on 25 December, but against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
We can say that the film can serve to try to give the date a new meaning.
Recording began in July in Kansas City, Missouri. Some of the filming will even take place at Arrowhead Stadium.
The movie’s storyline
Tyler Hynes, Hunter King and Ed Begley Jr. will star in the production.
A synopsis has been written by Hallmark itself to give fans a flavour of what they can expect from the feature film.
“In Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, Alana Higman (Hunter King) is sure that her family’s lifelong history as Kansas City Chiefs superfans makes them a frontrunner to win the team’s “Fan of the Year” contest. Derrick (Tyler Hynes), Director of Fan Engagement, is tasked with evaluating how Alana and her family stack up against the other two finalists,”.
“As the pair spends time together, it’s clear there’s a spark between them but when her grandfather’s (Ed Begley Jr.) vintage Chiefs, good luck winter hat goes missing, Alana begins to doubt everything she believed about fate, destiny and even questions her future with Derrick – unless, that is, a little Christmas magic can throw a Hail Mary.”
But there’s a surprise… Some Chiefs players will be appearing in the movie.
Head coach Andy Reid, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, defensive end George Karlaftis, right guard Trey Smith and wide receiver Mecole Hardman will be featured in the artwork.
2024 will be a historic year for the Kansas City Chiefs, in the game and on screen.
