BREAKING NEWS: Again Blues Move To Sign Another Defender On Huge Amount
Birmingham City could break the League One transfer record this season. Due to the financial might of American owners Knighthead, Blues have the resources to top the reported £4 million Sunderland paid for Will Grigg in January 2019.
However, it seems implausible that Blues will break that record to sign 31-year-old Rangers defender Connor Goldson. And it seems even more implausible that they will pay up to £30 million for the defender (yes, you read that correctly).
That is the figure former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has attached to Goldson, who is reportedly attracting interest from Blues and clubs in Saudi Arabia. Blues were linked with a move for Goldson earlier this week by The Scottish Sun.
Speaking to Football Insider about Goldson’s situation, former Villa, Everton and Aberdeen CEO Wyness said: “I think Birmingham seems to be the favourite. You mentioned the EFL and that’s where I’m hearing most interest is for Goldson.

“I really don’t know a valuation but I don’t see it being much more than £25-£30m. I know that Steven Gerrard would love him to be down at Al-Ettifaq. That’s the sort of money that I see for Goldson.
“I don’t see that big a market but Birmingham, in League One, may be prepared to pay that. They have big room for money to be spent there and will have a decent budget in League One, more than most clubs in the Championship.”
Rest assured Blues will not quintuple their £6m transfer record to sign Goldson from Rangers.
