Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes have both won three Super Bowl rings in their NFL career, but the former New England Patriots star has admitted that he wishes he could have played with more joy.

Tom Brady, the NFL legend known for his unparalleled success and seven Super Bowl rings, has opened up about his admiration for Patrick Mahomes’ approach to the sport.

Despite not being the most physically gifted or agile quarterback, Brady’s meticulous preparation, deep understanding of the game, and leadership skills allowed him to outshine his rivals consistently.

After hanging up his cleats in 2022, Brady has observed Mahomes leading the Kansas City Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl victories, sparking discussions about Mahomes potentially reaching Brady’s iconic status.

In a candid moment on ‘The Pivot’ podcast, Brady shared his thoughts: “What I would have changed was, ‘OK, there’s part of me that still loves … You see these young players. I see, like, Patrick [Mahomes] out there at quarterback, laughing, having fun. I’m like, ‘I used to be like that! ‘ What the hell happened to me? I just got too serious.”

Brady expressed a longing for the carefree joy he perceives in Mahomes, who has already clinched three Super Bowl titles within five years.

Brady triumphed over Mahomes in the Super Bowl four years ago, when his team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, defeated the Chiefs – marking Mahomes’ only loss in the championship game.

Unlike Brady, Mahomes has made a name for himself with his powerful arm and ability to make plays – often making incredible throws down the field. However, both quarterbacks have had the advantage of playing with a dominant tight end, with Travis Kelce being Mahomes’ preferred option, much like Rob Gronkowski was for Brady during his time with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After hanging up his boots in 2022, Brady is now poised to join the FOX Sports commentary team where he will commentate on games in 2024 – starting in week one when the Cleveland Browns take on the Dallas Cowboys.
