Alfie May Hits the Ground Running: Sets Two Ambitious Targets with Birmingham City
League One’s most prolific marksman Alfie May wants to score even more goals – and he plans to fire Birmingham City to the Championship in the process.
Blues gazumped promotion rivals Huddersfield Town to sign May from Charlton Athletic earlier this week. May has netted 20 goals in each of the last three League One campaigns and won the Golden Boot last term with 23 goals in 43 matches for the Addicks.
“I go into every game feeling confident,” he says. “I try to walk off the pitch being the best player and I try to score goals. That’s my job and that’s what Birmingham have brought me here for.
“I want to try and score more goals. Everybody looks at my age and thinks I’m getting old now, but I’ve got plenty more years and plenty more goals to score.”
Nobody at Blues is shying away from their main goal next term and that is to win promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt. New boss Chris Davies is being tooled up with an exciting squad
May added: “I think the big thing overall is getting out of this league. It’s going to be a tough league – one of the hardest League One leagues in a long time, there are some big clubs in it. It’s about starting well so we can get towards that end goal that we all want at this club, and that’s getting back to the Championship.”
