According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Juan Musso is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. And they have submitted an enquiry for the 30-year-old goalkeeper, who played his part in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph in the 2023/24 season.

Who is Juan Musso?

Juan Musso has come leaps and bounds since joining Atalanta from Udinese in July 2021. A native of San Nicolás de los Arroyos, he began his youth career at his hometown club Club de Regatas San Nicolás and spent some time at Club Atlético y Social Defensores de Belgrano before graduating from the Racing Club youth division over a decade ago.

The 30-year-old arrived in Europe in 2018 and made considerable progress during his stint with Udinese. However, Musso’s stock has soared since joining Atalanta, although he has been in and out of the starting lineup in the last two seasons. But the Argentine goalkeeper played his part as Atalanta won the UEFA Europa League in the 2023/24 season.

The experienced shot-stopper played more games in the Europa League than Serie A, keeping five clean sheets while conceding only eight goals in 12 appearances. Meanwhile, Musso’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Newcastle United.

Premier League move in the pipeline?

Newcastle United’s interest in Juan Musso is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. While Nick Pope will return from a long-term shoulder injury, Eddie Howe wants a shot-stopper who can build up play from the back.

So, several candidates have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with recent reports revealing an agreement with James Trafford. However, the links with Musso suggest the Magpies have hit a snag in the move for Trafford. And they have submitted an enquiry for the 30-year-old Europa League winner.

The Argentine international has seen his stock soar after an exceptional campaign in the UEFA Europa League. It will be interesting to see if an adventure in the Premier League is on the cards for Musso after his European heroics.
