Phil Hay shares Farke sack verdict if this happens

Phil Hay believes Daniel Farke will only be given one more chance to get Leeds United out of the Championship before being sacked.

Farke nearly took Leeds straight back up to the Premier League, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion to Leicester City and Ipswich Town before heading into the play-offs.

Having suffered heartbreak against Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, it will be expected that Farke secures promotion for Leeds at the second time of asking.

Speaking via The Square Ball podcast on Friday (14 June), Hay said: “You’ve seen that other managers can put together credible and competent seasons in the Championship in the way that Daniel Farke did last season, which makes you realise that it’s not just [Marcelo] Bielsa that can get Leeds out of the league.

“There are other managers who are good enough to do that, and Farke potentially is. But I’ll say it again, I see no way in which Farke gets a third chance at it [promotion]. It has to be this season.”

Could Daniel Farke be sacked by Leeds United next season?

Given how close the Whites came to securing promotion this season, Farke will definitely expected to push for the Championship title, let alone secure getting out of the Championship.

Also, taking his previous experience with Norwich City in the division into account, Farke has more than enough knowledge to get Leeds promoted, whatever the squad looks like at the end of the summer.

Elland Road is likely to witness a lot of change in the summer transfer market, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Wilfried Gnonto and Archie Gray linked with moves away.

These stars, understandably, are unlikely to want to stay in the Championship after missing out on promotion, but Farke will still be expected to get out of the league, nonetheless.

While some fans were calling for him to be sacked following the play-off final, the Leeds hierarchy have been very open about backing the manager, but that could very much change if promotion is not secured.
