LeBron James tells Lakers to draft Bronny and 39 year-old.
Stephen A. Smith’s recent comments on ESPN regarding LeBron James’ wishes for the Los Angeles Lakers have sparked considerable interest.
According to Smith, LeBron hopes the Lakers will use their second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to select his son, Bronny James. Additionally, LeBron reportedly wants J.J. Redick to become the next head coach of the franchise. This would align with a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Jovan Buha, which indicates that the Lakers are very optimistic about Redick’s coaching potential, comparing him to former Lakers coach Pat Riley.
Anthony Irwin of Lakers Daily reported in May that the Lakers have “zeroed in” on Redick as a potential replacement for Darvin Ham, who has been the team’s head coach for two seasons. League sources suggest that Redick, a former player and current media analyst, has generated significant buzz as a coaching candidate. The Lakers believe Redick could provide both immediate and long-term benefits to the franchise.
On the topic of Bronny James, Smith speculated that his draft stock might be intentionally manipulated so that he could be picked by the Lakers and play alongside his father. Currently, ESPN ranks Bronny as the No. 54 overall prospect in the 2024 NBA Draft, while the Lakers hold the No. 55 overall pick. In his lone collegiate season, Bronny averaged 4.8 points per game on 36.6 percent shooting from the field and 26.7 percent from three-point range, along with 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. Despite not starring at the collegiate level, he showed glimpses of his potential, such as scoring a season-high 15 points against Oregon State.
While it remains uncertain if Bronny will be a significant contributor at the NBA level or if Redick will succeed as a head coach, these moves could be crucial in appeasing LeBron James.
Given LeBron’s influence and the potential benefits of having both Bronny and Redick, the Lakers might seriously consider making these decisions.
