The Rangers prevail over their Rivals 3-2 win.
Nathaniel Lowe’s walk-off hit by pitch from Carson Fulmer in the 13th inning led the Texas Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night.
This victory was secured when Lowe, despite being in a 0-for-13 slump, managed to bring home the winning run by getting hit with the bases loaded.
Earlier in the game, Lowe had tied the score with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Adolis García hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for the Rangers, who improved their record to 24-23. The Rangers have not been below .500 since Bruce Bochy took over as manager before last season, when they won the World Series.
“It was a tough win,” Bochy said. “Exciting, with all the action happening. It’s good to get a win, although it would have been nicer if it was a bit easier.”
For the Angels, Taylor Ward and Jo Adell both hit home runs. However, the team struggled significantly with runners in scoring position, going 0 for 18, including 0 for 10 in extra innings, and leaving 11 runners on base.
In the 13th inning, Fulmer (0-2) allowed a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Ezequiel Duran, moving automatic runner Travis Jankowski to third base. After Marcus Semien lined out to third, the Angels intentionally walked Corey Seager to load the bases. Fulmer’s next pitch hit Lowe, bringing in the winning run.
Despite his recent struggles at the plate, Lowe stayed composed during his critical at-bat. “Considering my recent performance this past week, I was just there,” he said. “I’m going through a bit of a slow period, but I was in the right place at the right time at the end.”
The last time the Rangers won a game with a walk-off hit by pitch was in August 2016, when Rougned Odor was hit by a pitch from Oakland’s Marc Rzepcynski in the 10th inning.
Angels manager Ron Washington defended his decision to intentionally walk Seager, calling it a “very easy” decision.
