Breaking; Leeds United £4.2m Deal Pre-Agreement

Diego Llorente’s is being left in limbo by Roma with the Italians reportedly yet to decide if they will activate the £4.2million clause to make the central defender’s loan move from Leeds United permanent.

Netsport.uk report on page 8, 18 April details the uncertain futures of a number of players at the Serie A side, including Nicola Zalewski, Rui Patricio, Renato Sanches, Houssem Aouar and Angelino, among others

Despite the low fee required to secure Llorente’s services permanently, Roma appear unsure about making the investment.

Where next for Leeds United outcast Diego Llorente?

Llorente was handed a new deal before promptly being loaned out to Italy in the summer of 2023 after Leeds were relegated back to the Championship.

The Spaniard, who turns 31 ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, has largely established himself as a first-team regular in the Italian capital, making 25 Serie A appearances and earning 10 Europa League outings this season, playing 2,555 minutes in total across all competitions.

He has played his part as Roma have climbed to fifth in the Serie A standings and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they face fellow Italian outfit AC Milan

However, he and fellow former Premier League central defender Chris Smalling are among the older members of the squad and it could be that newly permanent head coach Daniele De Rossi decides to invest in a younger player instead

Should he return to Leeds, there does not appear to be a natural place for him in the squad in Yorkshire, either, with Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Pascal Struijk all likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order – at least, assuming the Whites can secure a permanent move for Rodon from Tottenham.

If Llorente is rejected by both Roma and Leeds, the latter will simply have to look elsewhere for a buyer. At an asking price of just £4.2m, they should be able to find a solution that suits all parties.

In other Leeds United news, a “concrete” update has emerged over Crysencio Summerville’s future at Elland Road
