Newcastle 2024/25 home kit release date confirmed and exclusive new deal revealed
Newcastle United will release the new Adidas 2024/25 home kit on 7 January after the launch date was leaked in a legal dispute with Sports Direct.
Details released by the BBC confirmed the club’s much-anticipated new home shirt will be revealed on 7 June. It will be the first time in over a decade that the North East club will team up with sports giant Adidas to create the famous black and white striped kit.
The news also confirmed Newcastle and Adidas have agreed an exclusive deal to sell the shirt through UK sports retailer JD Sports. The kit will be on sale on the official Newcastle website, Adidas website and on JD Sports from 7 June 2024.
The news comes as details of a legal dispute with Sports Direct – owned by unpopular former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley – who are challenging the decision to offer exclusivity to rival JD Sports and not allowing them to buy up 14% of the Newcastle United shirt stock.
Sports Direct claim it would damage their reputation if they were not able to sell Newcastle shirts, while suggesting they would not be able to offer discounts to fans if JD Sports has exclusivity.
Last year Sports Direct sold various Premier League kits for a penny less than other sports retailers.
This week The Hobby reported on the various benefits Newcastle fans will enjoy when the new Adidas home shirt launches. They include promotion to the Adidas ‘Elite’ stable of clubs, meaning hand-stitched badges and premium ‘authentic’ shirts sold alongside the more affordable stadium shirts. It also means the potential for worldwide marketing and extra merchandise ranging from special edition third shirts and Newcastle-themed trainers.
The deal is reportedly worth £40m a year to Newcastle, an increase on the current £5m a year contract with kit maker Castore.
