David Moyes sends passive aggressive message to West Ham fans about Newcastle
David Moyes has sent a message to the West Ham United fans ahead of our clash with Newcastle United today.
We face Newcastle in the Premier League today, and David Moyes spoke about the West Ham fans ahead of the clash.
The Hammers boss spoke to the press yesterday and suggested that Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd are both doubtful for the game up on Tyneside.
However, he said something else that really won’t go down well with the Hammers faithful…
The majority of West Ham fans have grown tired of Moyes’s approach to the game, with his negative tactics and a system that relies heavily on set-pieces leading to many of us wanting him gone.
Moyes has done a terrific job since returning to the London Stadium in December 2019. He has guided us to three successive European campaigns, and led us to our first major trophy since 1980 last season.
However, there is a feeling amongst the fans that he has reached his ceiling at the club. Can he take us higher than seventh place? It’s highly doubtful.
The main issue the majority of the fans have with the Scot though is the way that he sets up his team at the London Stadium – especially against inferior sides. It’s so hard to generate a good atmosphere when the team plays such a passive style of football with ten men behind the ball.
We travel to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle today, and there is usually a very good atmosphere up on Tyneside.
Moyes spoke to reporters yesterday, and used the Toon’s support as a stick to beat the Hammers fans with, but he did it in a very clever, passive aggressive way in my opinion…
David Moyes sends message to West Ham fans
The 60-year-old Hammers boss has had a few digs at the Hammers fans in the past. He took a real cheap shot at us back in December when he hinted that we’re ungrateful as a fanbase.
And now Moyes has sent a message to the West Ham supporters that was heavily layered with a real sense of passive aggressiveness, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“Your support will be vital. St James’ Park is probably one of the best in the country. Because of the success their team have had over the past year or so, they’ve always been incredibly passionate, but I think they’re probably even more so with what they’re getting. At West Ham, we’ve had brilliant seasons and we need the fans to really stick with us through what is a really important time of the season. Let’s hope they’re all behind us in the coming games at London Stadium and away from home.”
I don’t care what way you look at those comments, it’s clear to see the passive aggressiveness oozing from Moyes.
As mentioned earlier, there shouldn’t be any animosity towards the gaffer. It’s perfectly acceptable to be grateful for what he has done at the club AND to want him moved on. The two things are not mutually exclusive.
David Moyes has a habit of talking down to the West Ham fans at times, and I believe he was at it again yesterday. Give us a style of football to shout about at home and I promise you Dave, every single West Ham fan would be behind you.
