four folks gives update on Butland Fate at Rangers

Four Lads Had a Dream have labelled Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland out of his Three Lions squad an “absolute shambles”.

The Ibrox stopper had been tipped by Sky Sports (13 March) to earn a recall to Southgate’s England squad after more than five years for international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley.

However, the Three Lions boss opted to include Crystal Palace’ Sam Johnstone and Arsenal’s Ramsdale in his squad ahead of Butland, much to the frustration of Four Lads who voiced their irritation almost immediately after team news dropped.

Writing on X on Thursday (14 March) they said: “Ramsdale been picked over Jack Butland absolute shambles.”

Will Rangers keeper Jack Butland be in Gareth Southgate’s team for Euro 2024?

While a number of Michael Beale’s summer signings at Ibrox have flattered to deceive in a Rangers shirt, Butland has gone from strength to strength since making the switch to Glasgow and is easily one of England’s best three keepers.

The 31-year-old is yet to have a bad performance in a Light Blue shirt and has played a key role in Philippe Clement’s side as they have climbed up the Scottish Premiership table and impressed in the Europa League.

Butland is the only English goalkeeper to be playing week in and week out in Europe, as Ramsdale remains rooted to the Gunners’ bench, Johnstone has been in and out of the Palace team and Jordan Pickford fights against relegation at Everton.

Hopefully, the Rangers keeper will be rewarded with an international recall sooner rather than later, but is hard to see how he will make England’s squad for the Euro 2024 now, given this was Southgate’s last team before this summer’s tournament.

Butland may be relying on injuries to find his way back into Southgate’s side while he’s playing in Scotland.
