Strange claim about Brendan Rodgers and the entire Celtic board

Brendan Rodgers’ relationship with the Celtic board the first time around was well documented. The relationship between the Irishman and the Hoops hierarchy was seriously strained during his spell as manager.

So much so that when the opportunity to join Leicester City and leave the club presented itself in 2019, Rodgers had no hesitation in accepting it

However, five years on the Celtic manager is back and you would think that with the endeavour the club showed to get him last summer, all was forgiven between Rodgers and the Hoops board and the past was in the past.

Possibly not if you listen to former Celtic striker Andy Walker. The now radio pundit explains why he still believes there are underlying issues between Rodgers and the Hoops hierarchy.

Andy Walker hints at issues between Rodgers and Celtic board

Walker said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I think they’ve made mistakes and I can’t believe the manager wasn’t listened to. When you go and get Brendan Rodgers, I think he’s an elite manager.

“And I absolutely accept from listening, family and friends who have been to games, there’s nowhere near the level of football that they watched under Brendan Rodgers the first time around or the last couple of years under Ange Postecoglou.

“But if you’re bringing back someone like that, the problems they had first time around and you knew that there was a strange relationship with board members, you would have thought that had all been put to bed

Look, Celtic supporters are not daft. The issues in the last two transfer windows do seem to suggest that there are problems with the recruitment department identifying the correct targets.

The fact that Rodgers has barely played any of his summer recruits, bar Luis Palma and Paulo Bernardo, this season tells it’s own story.

And if Walker’s suggestion is correct and there are still issues between the Celtic manager and the board then one man needs to step in and sort it.

Dermot Desmond was the man who wanted Rodgers back at Celtic. He made the moves to instigate the return. If there are problems that are preventing him from doing his job correctly then the majority shareholder must be seen to be rectifying that.

Because if Celtic don’t win the league this season there will be not only questions asked of the manager, those upstairs will come under serious scrutiny by the supporters.
