Rangers striker Zak Lovelace is at the centre of a fresh injury scare after being forced off 18 minutes into a B Team clash.

The 18-year-old striker has been working his way back to full fitness after a devastating hamstring injury sustained v St Mirren in October last year.

The talented England youth international had been handed an opportunity under interim manager Steven Davis in an eventual 3-0 victory.

But now there has big fears Zak Lovelace has suffered a fresh blow in his injury recovery to add to the Ibrox club’s deepening issues.

The Rangers B side were facing off against Belgian team Royal Antwerp on away soil.

Zak Lovelace started the match, as he continued to work his way back from the injury sustained the best part of five months ago.

But after going down to receive treatment in the early stages of the match, the Rangers striker was eventually substituted after 18 minutes.

The Rangers B Team would go on to lose the match 3-2, despite going 2-0 ahead through goals from Joshua Gentles and Findlay Curtis.

Rangers squad woes deepen

Whilst we’ve no reason to believe the Zak Lovelace substitution is no more than an injury precaution, the situation is enough to raise the nerves inside Ibrox.

The Gers frontline has been decimated by injury recently with Philippe Clement lamenting no fewer than eight major issues heading into the Europa League match with Benfica.

With pressure on the Gers to reinforce the club’s forward line in January, the Belgian manager also namedropped Zak Lovelace as potentially playing a role in the team this season.

Fans will be crossing their fingers with Zak Lovelace as the talented young striker works his way back from this troublesome injury.

The ex-Millwall striker is one of the highest-rated talents in the club’s Academy and there are minutes there for him this season if he can prove his fitness.
