Reported £3.8m star could’ve played final game for Gers
Rangers could be without Colombian winger Oscar Cortes for up to three months due a muscle injury, according to the man behind Four Lads Had a Dream.
Stevie Clifford is known to have close links to the club and made the revelation whilst speaking on the Rangers Review’s Morning Briefing (04/03).
Popular fan media outlet Four Lads Had a Dream is a leading voice in the Ibrox club’s media space and Stevie Clifford is a well respected figure when it comes to all things Rangers.
The news will come as a bitter disappointment to Rangers, the support, and Oscar Cortes himself, who had started brightly at Ibrox.
Oscar Cortes facing three month injury?
Stevie Clifford was talking after Rangers’ disappointing 2-1 weekend defeat to Motherwell, where the former Ibrox media partner believes the Gers’ awful run of luck with injuries finally caught up with the club.
Rangers have a number of key players out from middle to front and that is set to continue with Cortes potentially looking at a 12 week absence.
“You get that blow with the (Oscar) Cortes news just before (the game with Motherwell),” said Clifford.
“I think at the moment in world football we’re the only football club that can have a guy that kind of walks off holding his hamstring signalling he’s ok to find out that he’s potentially out for three months.
“I think our run of luck with injuries just finally caught up with us because there wasn’t a spark on Saturday.”
Rangers winger blow sums up Ibrox luck
Rangers manager Philippe Clement had previously resisted giving a timeline on the injury, which he did describe as “severe” ahead of the Kilmarnock match.
Suggesting that he would update supporters in more detail after consultation with a specialist and parent club RC Lens, the prognosis is certainly not a positive one.
Given Oscar Cortes is only 20-years-old we’re sure the kid will bounce back from the injury in time but it represents a major blow to this season’s aims and ambitions.
The Colombian looked a direct, talented option off the flank and had begun to settle very well alongside fellow January signings Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande.
Signed on a loan-to-buy from French Ligue 1 club RC Lens – who paid a reported £3.8m to sign the kid in from FC Millonarios in the summer – the situation with the Oscar Cortes injury also brings into question any future deal to sign the attacker.
The timelines involved – which would take the winger to late May – also mean that if the option is not activated or another loan deal isn’t struck, the Colombian might’ve already played his last game for Rangers.
Oscar Cortes has made seven appearances for Rangers, scoring once and laying on two assists.
