Ex-Ibrox star nets stunner after reported £350k 2023 exit
Ex-Rangers midfielder Charlie McCann will have fans mulling over a reported Ibrox buyback clause after netting a stunning goal for Forest Green.
The young Northern Irish midfielder, 21, hit a rasping 30-yard shot to win the day for Forest Green against Tranmere Rovers and net only his second goal of the season.
The result has the potential to boost Forest Green’s League Two survival hopes with the club currently occupying one of the division’s two relegation places.
Have a look at the stunning goal below as ex-Manchester United talent Charlie McCann shows exactly why he made the breakthrough at Rangers before moving down south.
Ex-Ibrox Forest Green midfielder nets stunner
After impressing in the Rangers B team, Charlie McCann played eight times for the Ibrox club’s first-team before making the switch to Forest Green in 2023.
There was some confusion surrounding a potential fee paid by Rangers to Man United to sign the kid, who at the time was turning out for the Republic of Ireland’s youth team, with claims that the Gers paid £750k rubbished by Ibrox insiders.
Switching his allegiances to Northern Ireland during his time at Ibrox, Charlie McCann has five caps with the country’s U21s and is tipped to be an international of the future.
Forest Green are said to have paid Rangers £350k for the talented midfielder, who moved to the club in January 2023 despite being offered a new contract at Ibrox.
Could Charlie McCann goal convince Rangers?
It’s said that Charlie McCann opted to move on from Glasgow in the search of first-team minutes and since making the move has made 38 appearances for Forest Green.
The midfielder made only three appearances for the club as they were relegated from League One last season with the club now staring at back-to-back demotions.
Whilst Rangers are said to boast a buy-back option on Charlie McCann’s move to Forest Green, even his stunning goal v Tranmere Rovers is unlikely to convince the club to activate it.
The Gers have certainly moved on in this department with midfield an increasingly competitive position at Ibrox and Charlie McCann certainly unlikely to get the minutes he craves at Ibrox.
That’s even if midfielder himself has previously suggested he has unfinished business at Rangers.
