Nottingham Forest
30-year-old released by Nottingham is a Golden player in championship
Nottingham Forest waved goodbye to Cafu after three years at the club during the summer – and last night he scored a very cheeky goal.
The midfielder is now at Rotherham United and last night the Millers were beaten again – this time 4-3 at promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town.
So, what did departed Forest player Cafu do during the game? Let’s take a closer look…
Cafu scores cheeky goal as Rotherham lose once again
Well, this typified the confidence that Cafu displays when he steps foot on a football pitch – and he showed some sizeable minerals.
Cafu was actually left on the bench last night and only came on as a substitute in the 86th minute.
The Portuguese performer was thrust into the action in the fourth minute of stoppage time when referee Keith Stroud awarded the Millers a penalty.
Forest fans will know all about Cafu and his prowess from the penalty spot, following his well-taken spot-kick in the play-off semi-final during 2021/22.
This time, however, the experienced performer took the absolute biscuit, dinking a panenka straight down the middle of the Ipswich goal!
It was a move that displayed confidence from Cafu but couldn’t stop the former Forest man from being on the losing side.
That goal made it 3-3 but Omari Hutchinson scored moments later to ensure a big three points for the Tractor Boys.
Cafu solid without being spectacular at Forest
During the 2021/22 campaign which saw Forest win promotion, Cafu was a bit of a cheerleader in the squad.
He made 21 appearances during that campaign and found himself thrust into the action in the play-offs.
Cafu was also on the bench for the play-off final as Forest reached the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.
In total, the player made 55 appearances for the Reds and when Cafu was called upon he rarely let Forest down.
He was always a solid – if often unspectacular – and in our view, it’s good to see that he’s enjoying his football with Rotherham.
