Confirmed: Four Rangers players out v St Johnstone due to injury
Philippe Clement has issued an update on his Rangers side ahead of the St Johnstone clash in the league on Sunday, 18 February.
Leon Balogun is set to return to the side but Rabbi Matondo will be ruled out due to a muscle injury.
No other players have returned so Abdallah Sima, Danilo and Kemar Roofe will all be ruled out for the Ibrox outfit.
Clement said, via the club’s Twitter handle: “Rabbi (Matondo) has a small muscle issue, why he was changed at HT. He had a scan and will miss this game, I think he will be back short-term. Only Leon Balogun comes back after adjustments made to his face mask, so he is available for selection.”
Rangers need to win to keep the pressure on Celtic
Rangers know they have to secure a victory against St Johnstone and are rightfully considered favourites for the match.
Sitting just behind Celtic in the Premiership standings, Rangers are eager to maintain their momentum and keep pace in the title race.
Their recent performance against Ross County showcased their attacking prowess, with an impressive 43 attempts on goal, highlighting their intent to dominate matches.
With the opportunity to leapfrog Celtic with a win, Gers understand the importance of clinching all three points.
Moreover, their opponents, while resilient defensively, have struggled near the bottom of the table, making them a prime target for Clement’s side to exploit.
Additionally, their attacking assets, coupled with their recent form, position them as clear favourites for the encounter.
James Tavernier’s potential impact from set pieces and the team’s ability to score early goals further enhance their prospects for success.
