King: Rangers ‘big lad’ causes problem for Everton player
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford may be challenged for the England number one spot by Rangers ace Jack Butland.
That is according to former Goodison Park scout Bryan King, who believes Pickford often makes easy saves look difficult.
The verdict comes amid the recent admission from Ibrox number one Butland that he met with Gareth Southgate and the England squad when they travelled to Scotland last year [talkSPORT, 5 February].
Speaking to Goodison News, King said: “It seems as though Butland has got his confidence back. I can see him challenging Pickford at England, because he’s a big lad, and he did have a bad run with injuries.
“Pickford seems to have picked his game up a little bit, but the only thing with him is that he can’t stay out of anything, he’s always shouting at people. Worry about doing your job. His kicking is good, but he makes easy saves look difficult.”
Everton star under pressure?
Pickford has been the clear number one for both club and country for some time now, with the shot-stopper undoubtedly a very talented player.
He has been given a run for his money for the Three Lions by the likes of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, Newcastle United’s Nick Pope and Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone in recent times.
But none of them has managed to displace the Goodison Park ace, with Ranger star Butland set to find himself in a similar position should he be recalled by Southgate.
Pickford does, however, perhaps have more important problems right now, with the goalkeeper currently trying to push the Toffees away from the Premier League relegation zone, with fellow strugglers Crystal Palace up next.
