Nuno stand on David de Gea Nottingham transfer hint as Matz Sels drops verdict

Nuno Espirito Santo has claimed that reports linking goalkeepers with a move to Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window were ‘not true’.

The Reds signed Matz Sels from Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg on deadline day to further strengthen Nuno’s goalkeeping options. That signing came as a result of Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos both struggling since they arrived at the City Ground during the summer.

Reports shortly after the winter transfer window closed claimed that former Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea turned down a move to Forest before the Reds signed Sels. Another former United goalkeeper, Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone, was also linked.

But Reds boss Nuno has appeared to hint that claims linking the club with De Gea and several other keepers were not accurate in his praise for their new Belgian goalkeeper.

“He’s [Matz] a good, experienced goalkeeper,” Nuno said via SportsBoom.com. “He was playing regularly for his club, so it made sense to sign him and give us another option among our goalkeepers.

”It’s not about choices and whether he was first choice or not. Matz is here because he’s a good goalkeeper. He’s been here [in England] before.
