Luton Town – The great relegation battle

Published

on

The battle to avoid relegation, this season, has the potential to be one of the most intense in Premier League history.

Although the Hatters were beaten by Sheffield United, on Saturday, results in the other fixtures relating to those involved in the relegation battle went our way.

Indeed, last night, in the Monday night match, Chelsea did the Hatters a huge favour by coming from 1-0 down to beat Crystal Palace 3-1, thereby enhancing Palace’s chances of joining the fray.

At the moment, I’m of the opinion that there are, currently six, possibly seven, clubs looking to do well enough to cement their place, in the top flight of English football, for at least another season, with the six being – Burnley, Sheffield United, Everton, Luton Town, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and possibly Brentford.

But as to who will be the three who lose their status I’m none the wiser.

All we can do is monitor the form of the clubs affected and looking at the last five games it looks as thus:

• Sheffield United – LDLLW = 4 points
• Burnley – LDLDL = 2 points
• Everton – LDDDL = 3 points
• Luton Town – LDWDL = 5 points
• Nottingham Forest – WLLDL = 4 points
• Crystal Palace – WLWLL = 6 points
• Brentford – LWLLW = 6 points

As can be seen, no one team is in the best of form and it really is, at the moment, guess work as to who will face the dreaded drop.

But, off the cuff, who can you see, out of the seven clubs listed, making the dreaded drop into the EFL Championship?
