Nuno names 29-yr-old who hasn’t played for Nottingham since 2022 in main squad

Nottingham Forest have surprisingly named Richie Laryea in their 25-man squad for the remainder of the Premier League campaign.

This comes from the official website.

So, what does the future hold exactly for Laryea at Forest? Let’s have a closer look at the 25-man squad which has recently been finalised.

Richie Laryea named in Nottingham Forest 25-man squad

Well, this is a piece of news that comes as a massive surprise given that Laryea hasn’t played for Forest sin

ce the final day of 2021/22.

His appearance at Hull during a 1-1 draw was the only time that Laryea has started for the Reds.

Now, according to the club’s official website, he’s been included on the list of players named in the 25-man squad for the second half of the season.

Laryea, 29, has made just five appearances for Forest since signing for the club from Toronto FC.

He’s enjoyed loan spells back with his previous club and made 14 appearances for Vancouver Whitecaps during the first half of the season.

Laryea is now back at Forest and it would appear as though Nuno Espirito Santo is covering all bases when it comes to his full-backs.

Forest make surprise selection in 25-man squad

Forest are so well-stocked at full-back that they allowed Serge Aurier to join Galatasaray shortly after the transfer window in the UK closed.

Neco Williams played on Saturday, whilst Gonzalo Montiel has been the regular right-back under Espirito Santo.

Ola Aina is also a natural at right-back, although he has played on the left more often than not for Forest.

By naming Laryea in the Forest squad it could indicate that Espirito Santo has got him training with the group at the moment.

However, with the new MLS campaign on the horizon, surely there will be suitors for his signature once again in the coming weeks.

Given how many players Forest have signed since promotion, it does look somewhat awkward to see Laryea on the squad list.

In our view, however, this is nothing more than a token gesture to keep the player working hard in the event that he is needed somewhere down the line.
