Former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones has revealed what he heard about Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland amid Rangers links.

Jones told NetSport.uk on 11 February that until the final hours of the January window, an exit and potential move to Ibrox was not ruled out for the 28-year-old.

He also suggests that the fact that he’s not signed an extension at Tynecastle even though the window has ended could mean a summer transfer to Gers.

He said: “Yeah, Hearts fans are probably not much better off here, because he still hasn’t signed a new contract for him and the speculation is going to continue that another club is going to try to sign him. Even in the closing hours of the window, I wasn’t given any certainties about him not leaving Hearts. So that probably speaks volumes about where this guy might be taking his career next.”

Shankland to Rangers still on the cards

The possibility of Shankland moving to Ibrox in the summer remains highly plausible and discussions between the striker and the club could still be ongoing.

Despite the transfer failing to materialise during the January window, the interest from Rangers persists, indicating that Shankland continues to be a target for Philippe Clement’s side.

The 28-year-old’s impressive performances in the Scottish Premiership, coupled with his prolific goal-scoring record, make him an attractive prospect for Gers as they aim to bolster their attacking options.

Additionally, Shankland’s contract situation at Hearts, where he has not yet signed a new deal, further fuels speculation about his potential departure.

The fact that Rangers were relatively quiet in the winter transfer window in terms of permanently signing a first-team striker that they may prioritise securing the Scotland international’s signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.

He would certainly be an ideal fit for Clement’s side and could notch up over 20 league goals for the next couple of seasons.
