As the pin drops, Rangers Hampden conspiracy talk is quieted.
Rangers will travel to Hibs in the tie of the Scottish Cup quarter-finals as cries of Hampden conspiracy go suspiciously quiet.
The usual suspects were all out suggesting Rangers had, in all of their majesty, rigged the last few rounds having drawn lower league opposition at home.
But as the Ibrox side get a challenging trip to Hibs in the last eight, you could hear a pin drop across the city after Celtic earned a home draw against the Premiership’s bottom side Livingston.
Championship side Greenock Morton have been rewarded for overcoming Motherwell with a home tie against Hearts whilst Aberdeen host Kilmarnock in the final clash of the round.
The Scottish Cup quarter final matches will be played the weekend of March 9th.
Rangers draw Hibs in Scottish Cup
Whilst we joke about the cries of conspiracy around the Scottish Cup draw, Rangers know they’ve been handed one of the hardest ties in the trip to Hibs.
The Gers managed a routine enough 3-0 victory over the Easter Road side back in January and it promises to be an entertaining cup tie in Edinburgh.
Rangers made the Quarter Final after defeating Championship side Ayr United 2-0 at Ibrox, goals from Borna Barisic and Fabio Silva silencing ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown.
Hibs – who are under pressure amid a downturn in Premiership form – impressed in a 3-1 win away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Myziane Maolida, Martin Boyle, and Ellie Youan sent a reminder about the talent in the Easter Road side’s ranks, with Aaron Doran scoring a late consolation for Caley Thistle.
Ibrox fans dreaming of legendary quadruple
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has his eyes set on winning every competition this campaign but he will not be letting his charges take their eyes off the prize.
With the Scottish Cup clash against Hibs shelved until next month, Rangers will be focusing on who is up next as the old mantra of one-game-at-a-time rings out around Ibrox.
But that doesn’t mean Rangers fans haven’t been urged to dream – quite the contrary – as visions of a Europa League victory build hopes of a legendary quadruple.
“They have the right to dream because they’re fans,” said Clement. “So they can dream and it’s important to dream also in life.
“I want one thing; that my players are focused on the next game. Just that, and full focus on that. You can dream in the beginning of the season but as a player, as a manager, as member of staff, you need to be in the story at that moment.
“But that’s the nice thing to be fan that you do those things so I hope that they dream about a lot. Because I love also the passion they have now, how they are behind the team, how they are helping the team also through difficult moments.
“So if they dream about those things they are going to help the team even more next couple of months, so I hope they dream a lot.”
Rangers have already secured the League Cup trophy this season, overcoming Aberdeen 1-0 courtesy of a James Tavernier winner.
The Gers can also go top of the Scottish Premiership this weekend if they overcome Ross County by more than two goals.
