‘This is classy’: Colin Fray noticed what Moussa Niakhate did
Colin Fray has claimed that Nottingham Forest defender Moussa Niakhate did something really classy last night as the Reds beat Bristol City on penalties.
The lead commentator was speaking on BBC Radio Nottingham.
So, what did Fray spot Niakhate do after Forest edged through to earn a fifth-round clash against Manchester United? Let’s take a closer look…
What Colin Fray spotted Moussa Niakhate do after Forest win
Well, it’s been a rough couple of weeks for Niakhate, with his African Cup of Nations dreams ending in tatters.
Forest defender Niakhate was the only man to miss a penalty as the holders Senegal were dumped out by the Ivory Coast in the last 16.
Last night, he dusted himself off to score Forest’s fourth penalty in the shootout as the Reds netted all five spot kicks.
The only player to miss was Bristol City player Sam Bell, who had been quality throughout the game, and Niakhate held back his celebrations to go over to the Robins player.
Fray said on BBC Radio Nottingham: “This is classy and it’s from Forest defender Moussa Niakhate.
“Now, before he’s started celebrating, he’s gone straight over to Sam Bell who was the one man who saw a penalty saved tonight and they’ve just had a few moments together.
“That’s a very nice touch from Niakhate, given what he’s just endured at the African Cup of Nations”
Niakhate shows leadership qualities with gesture
If supporters were going to worry that a lack of leaders was going to be evident after Joe Worrall joined Besiktas, then they needn’t have worried.
Niakhate is a man who looks capable of stepping up to be Forest captain one day and he led by example with this classy gesture.
It’s never nice to miss a penalty in a shootout. Ultimately, there was more riding on the spot kicks for Bristol City than there was for Forest.
The Reds hadn’t played Manchester United for many years prior to the 2022/23 campaign. Now, they will prepare to face them for the seventh time in two seasons!
Niakhate looks every inch like captain material at Forest and this moment highlights what a gem Nuno Espirito Santo has to call upon.
