Nottingham Forest
Premier League’s president says he’s not happy with what Nottingham Forest did.
The Premier League have taken aim at Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Arsenal over constant complaints against match officials.
This comes from the division’s chief football officer Tony Scholes.
So, what has been said about Forest after their latest complaint to the PGMOL? Let’s take a closer look…
What Tony Scholes has said about Forest complaining
Well, it would appear that the Premier League are pretty unimpressed by the constant complaints from Forest.
The Reds have contacted the PGMOL a couple of times in recent months for clarity on certain incidents.
In Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game in charge, Willy Boly was wrongly sent off by Rob Jones – and subsequently lost 3-2.
Last month, the Reds were beaten by the same scoreline at Brentford – with Ivan Toney moving the ball behind the referee’s back and scoring.
Scholes thinks that it’s damaging when clubs constantly contact the PGMOL, with Liverpool and Arsenal also in the dock.
He told I News: “If the objective of VAR is to improve the accuracy of decision-making then it has been a significant success.
“PGMOL in particular, but sometimes also us at the Premier League, communicate with clubs all the time regarding referees and decisions in a game.
“Clubs are aware that Howard (Webb) and his colleagues are open to calls at any point, they do that regularly.
“Frankly, I don’t understand sometimes the need for clubs to go public to say they’ve made a complaint when they’re communicating all the time.”
Has VAR been that bad?
Well, certainly in recent weeks from a Forest perspective, it feels like the club has been stung on a couple of occasions.
The two incidents in games against Bournemouth and Brentford were particularly hard to stomach.
According to the report, there have been 57 correct VAR interventions this and season and 20 incorrect VAR calls – a reduction from 25 incorrect VAR calls at this stage last sense.
Frankly, teams have to get used to VAR being involved in football and work must be done with the PGMOL to improve the system as it’s here to stay.
Forest are among a clutch of clubs that probably feel that VAR works massively against them when they come up against some of the bigger clubs.
In our view, the next stage should see referees hooked up to the stadium tannoy, allowing them to announce the thought process of the key decision to the paying spectators.
