29-year-old admits things have gone ‘completely wrong’ for him at Nottingham Forest
Matt Turner has held his hands up over some huge mistakes for Nottingham Forest and believes he can still make an impact.
The goalkeeper has been speaking with Goal.
So, what has the USMNT custodian said following some glaring Forest errors? Let’s take a closer look…
What Matt Turner has said about current Nottingham Forest form
The 29-year-old was signed by Forest from Arsenal for around £10 million in the summer and he’s regressed as the season has progressed.
Forest stopper Turner has showcased why he’s spent most of his career as a number two stopper with several high-profile errors.
His latest error came against Arsenal when he allowed a tame Gabriel Jesus effort to squirm underneath him and into the net.
Turner has owned his errors and after losing his place to Matz Sels on Sunday; he’s claimed he’s up for the fight.
He told Goal: “Everything that could possibly have gone wrong in certain moments has gone completely wrong. Sometimes as a goalkeeper, you might get away with one or two things. It feels like this season I’ve gotten away with zero. It’s tough to take.
“Now I’ve got a fight on my hands for the position. I’m no stranger to being in these type of scenarios. I’ve been overlooked and doubted many times in my life and my career. I wouldn’t have gotten to this point if I wasn’t confident in myself. I can be somebody that has a real impact on this football club.”
Turner simply can’t keep goal anymore at the City Ground
It may sound harsh but enough is enough – and Nuno Espirito Santo knows it!
It had been claimed that Forest might stick with their current goalkeepers. However, it’s proved one too many errors for Turner.
Alan Rogers previously claimed that Turner wasn’t good enough for Forest and sadly that has proved the case.
Forest need a strong pair of hands between the posts and Turner doesn’t look capable of providing that.
With Sels signed on transfer deadline day, it now looks highly unlikely that the 29-year-old will be called upon again in the Premier League this season.
