“Scared,” says Philippe Clement in response to what he witnessed at Rangers.
Philippe Clement has admitted that he expected more from the opposition in the Scottish Premiership ahead of Rangers’ fixture with Aberdeen on Tuesday 6 February.
The Gers have lost just one match under the Belgian since his arrival in October, narrowly missing out during a 2-1 loss to their Old Firm rivals on 30 December.
The Ibrox side now have a chance to blow the title race wide open, as a victory against The Dons would take them level on points with Celtic, but Clement has admitted the rest of the league possesses a lack of bravery against his team.
Speaking via the The Scottish Sun on Monday (5 February), he said: “For me, what I want for Scottish football is that managers who are coming in are brave to play. There is still a step to make.
“I see in the warm-up sometimes how they are built, how they are technically. Then I don’t see it in the game. I think afterwards it is a little bit of a pity.
“There are teams who do things, and then there are teams who are afraid to do it. I know that people sometimes say it is not possible.”
Tougher challenge for Rangers
As they wish, Rangers may be given a much harder task against Aberdeen on Tuesday night, with the new addition of Neil Warnock posing a whole new challenge for Clement.
Though the former Leeds United and Middlesbrough boss has only had limited time with his new squad, having only been appointed on Monday, the Gers have a much more difficult task in front of them than usual.
Aberdeen are already a tough opponent for the Gers, boasting two wins and a draw over the Ibrox side in the past five meetings. Warnock will give the visitors an even better chance of claiming at least a point from Rangers.
However, with just three points separating Clement’s team from the top spot in the Scottish Premiership, the Rangers squad will be handed the extra motivation of being able to topple their Old Firm rivals, if they manage a goal difference of plus three.
