According to No Ataque, Jose Cifuentes will show up for his physical at Cruzeiro in “a few days” as part of a long-awaited loan move from Rangers.

The midfield player is reportedly “close” to joining Cruzeiro, but he won’t sign a deal until after Carnival, according to a report from a Brazilian website on February 5.

It is understood that he will stay at his home in Ecuador from Friday 9 February with a current delay in the loan signing due to bureaucratic reasons, awaiting labour documentation.

End of a Rangers nightmare

Cifuentes’ nightmare at Ibrox finally looks to be coming to a close. The midfielder looked to be a promising arrival upon signing during the Michael Beale era.

For a short time, the Colombian seemed to be the real deal and Rangers had uncovered a hidden gem. However, the £1.2million man, as per Sky Sports, suffered from injury and the switch to Philippe Clement killed off the bright start to his Rangers career.

There is no surprise that the Belgian has been unimpressed with Cifuentes. Clement holds very high standards at Ibrox and the midfielder has yet to meet those expectations, which is why a loan move is ideal for all parties.

A move to Brazil gives the player a chance to become more comfortable and gain valuable minutes while the Gers are not expected to choose him in the squad each week. It is a win-win for all parties, and the hope will be that Cruzeiro can rediscover Cifuentes’ prior form.

The 24-year-old is very much still a raw talent and there is no reason that he cannot still have a future at Ibrox if he manages to improve his form during the loan spell. He proved during his three years at LAFC in the MLS what kind of player he is capable of being.

Clement hopes the player returns to Ibrox at the end of his loan spell in South America.
