Daniel Farke Clear explains key roles over Connor Roberts Journey

Connor Roberts will travel with the Leeds United squad to Tuesday night’s FA Cup replay at Plymouth Argyle, athough defender is not elligible to play.

The Welsh international joined the Whites on loan from Burnley on transfer deadline day, but is yet to make his debut, with Friday night’s 1-0 win at Bristol City coming too soon. He won’t be able to play at Home Park as competition rules state that players must have registered for the original tie in order to take part in any replay.

That means he will have to wait for Saturday’s home Championship game against Rotherham United for his first taste of action in a Leeds United shirt, but Daniel Farke has no worries about the 28-year-old stepping into the squad.

“Roberts is not eligble to play so won’t be in the squad,” Farke said. “He is an important signing for us and we wanted to bring a specialist in.

“He has experience and quality at this level, is a good character and is a good age, he’s on his way up the hill not down the hill. We knew from our conversations he was desperate to be a part of this group.

“He’s in good physical condition. I think he will adapt quick and be an option real soon. We will take him to Plymouth so he gets a feeling for the group.”

Leeds will be without the injured Pascal Struijk and Daniel James, while Jamie Shackleton is likely to miss the trip through illness. When Roberts does get his chance, he’ll be raring to go.

“For me personally, it is about ticking over,” Roberts said. “I am ready to go; I always have been in my career

When I’ve had a few weeks and months of not playing whether that be at Burnley, Middlesbrough or wherever, I’ve always been ready. When the chance comes, I will give absolutely everything when I put on that shirt.
