Rangers player may now quit Ibrox in third week of February and jet out with family – report
Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes’ move to Cruzeiro might take more than a week to complete, according to O Tempo Sports, which could see it happening in the third week of February.
Samuel Venancio who works for the Brazilian media outlet, reported on Saturday, 3 February that the deal involves the 24-year-old’s family also moving with him which is why it might take longer to happen.
The Ecuador international has been linked with the exit door at Ibrox all January and there were even links with Michael Beale wanting him at Sunderland.
No Ibrox return for Cifuentes
Cifuentes’ imminent departure from Rangers on a season-long loan to Cruzeiro appears to be a beneficial move for both the player and the club.
Having fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox, with no appearances in 2024, Cifuentes needs regular playing time to reignite his career.
This loan provides him with the opportunity to showcase his talents and regain form.
For Gers, it’s an opportunity to offload a player who hasn’t been able to make an impact while potentially recouping some of the initial investment through a loan fee.
However, to safeguard their interests, they must ensure that the loan deal includes an obligation to buy clause.
This prevents the risk of Cifuentes just being a stopgap at the Brazilian club and that they end up paying Gers what his entire valuation is.
Whether or not it’s something that he agrees with, as he has turned down a move to Turkey, remains to be seen, but it certainly should be discussed.
