‘Deal almost done’ – Fabrizio Romano: Rangers verbally agreed

The deal is almost done and is set to be signed soon to take midfielder Jose Cifuentes to Cruzeiro on loan from Rangers, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist tweeted on Sunday (4 February) that the Brazilian club have reached a verbal agreement with the Gers over a temporary switch for the Ecuadorian international.

He added that the 24-year-old picked the South American side over two offers in Europe because he wants to be a regular starter ahead of the upcoming Copa America.

Jose Cifuentes not in Philippe Clement’s Ibrox plans

It’s become quite clear that Cifuentes is not in the plans of Philippe Clement at Ibrox, so there was no point in Rangers needlessly keeping him around.

There will be great disappointment from all parties that the move hasn’t been a success after they worked hard to bring him in from LAFC last summer.

The Gers stumped up a reported £1.2million to secure his services just months before his contract with the MLS side was set to expire.

Romano didn’t reveal whether or not there is a buy option included in the deal, but Ge Globo reported on 31 January that the Light Blues were looking to include a £2million option-to-buy clause.

Either way, it feels unlikely that the midfielder will ever take to the field at Ibrox again after he’s failed to make much of an impression over the past six months.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has mooted a Gers move for a former Premier League forward after he’s torn up his contract.
