‘Exemplary’: President says he has sold ‘a true soldier’ to Nottingham Forest
Marc Keller has given his verdict on Matz Sels after the former Newcastle United goalkeeper moved to Nuno’s Nottingham Forest on the final day of the January transfer window.
Strasbourg president Keller has noted what makes Sels a very good goalkeeper and has outlined the kind of character that Forest are getting in him.
So, what has Marc Keller said about Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels? Let’s take a look.
Praise for Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels
Well, Nottingham Forest signed Matz Sels from RC Strasbourg Alsace on deadline day.
The Reds reportedly paid £5 million in transfer fees to secure the services of the former Newcastle United goalkeeper in the January transfer window.
Forest were linked with other goalkeepers before they got Sels. The Reds tried to sign former Manchester United star David de Gea. They were in talks over Sam Johnstone as well.
Strasbourg president Marc Keller has outlined what makes Sels a very good player and character and has wished him the best of luck at Forest. The 31-year-old made over 160 league appearances for the French club.
“He was an exemplary goalkeeper and captain. But, after almost six seasons here, he wanted a new challenge and expressed the wish to try his luck again in England.
“Matz has always been impeccable with the club. We now wish him the best for the rest of his career. He will remain in the legend of Racing.”
My View: Matz Sels signing worrying for Matt Turner
In my view, Nottingham Forest signing Matz Sels on the final day of the January transfer window is really worrying for Matt Turner.
I think that it is only a matter of time before Forest manager Nuno decides to take Turner out of his team and put Sels in his place.
Sels is a more experienced goalkeeper who had a spell in England with Newcastle United.
He is 31 now and is at the top of his game. The Belgium international has not come to Forest to sit on the bench.
Turner has made some costly errors for Forest. The USA international goalkeeper has shown why Arsenal decided to let him go in the summer of 2023.
In my opinion, Turner’s future at Forest is bleak. I will not be surprised if the Reds sell the former Arsenal goalkeeper in the summer of 2024.
