“Hearts have received…” – Journalist makes Shankland bid claim amid continued Gers links
Rangers have been linked with a move for Lawrence Shankland throughout this transfer window, Philippe Clement’s need for more goals only fueling the fires of speculation.
The Gers boss was clear when he said that his current squad wasn’t enough to compete on all fronts and bringing another striker to Ibrox seemed like the only answer.
In Oscar Cortes, Rangers look to have added another forward option but he isn’t a proven hitman in the way that Lawrence Shankland is, but could the Hearts skipper be leaving Tynecastle.
Rangers transfer status in Lawrence Shankland saga confirmed
Responding to questions on X, Football Scotland journalist Mark Hendry has given an update on where the Scotland international’s future lies.
Every player that Rangers have signed, or like Jefte been close to moving in this window, have been named that have come from nowhere.
There has never been any concrete evidence of Rangers wanting to sign Lawrence Shankland in this transfer window.
If anything, all the noise has been coming out of Hearts.
Shankland has 18-months left on his current deal so why are they trying to force him to extend his deal within 24 hours of the transfer window ending?
Why the rush?
If Hearts had received any bids or official interest, going by how they have fed information about the contract offers to Shankland, you can guarantee that they would be telling anyone who would listen that the bid isn’t good enough.
They have to be seen to be doing everything possible to keep their star player, a player who, without him, wouldn’t be miles in front in third place and scrapping with those below them in the fight for European football.
Rangers might have picked up the phone once to ask how much Hearts want for Lawrence Shankland, but even then, Hendry is reporting that not a single club has intimated that they are interested.
If Philippe Clement wanted Shankland, we’d have heard about it by now.
Wouldn’t we?
