Rangers could bring in mystery signing today, Clement ‘Delighted’ – report

Rangers could be very active on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Gers have already brought in Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande during the January transfer window.

Left-back Jefte has also been strongly linked, although a move now looks more likely to be finalised in the summer [Fabrizio Romano].

Oscar Cortes is also reported to be in Glasgow ahead of completing a move before the 23:30 cut-off point on Thursday (1 February).

Speaking to Give Me Sport [31 January], Bridge suggested a player beyond those two names could also put pen to paper.

“Rangers are looking at a left-back,” he said. “They were waiting for the green light for Jefte to come in, and they’re in ongoing discussions with Lens to sign winger Cortes on loan.

“If Clement can get four players in, I think he’d be absolutely delighted. A source also told me there might be one more, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“But I think if Clement got four in, he’d be delighted because I don’t think he inherited the best squad in the world, and he inherited players who came in in the summer who just haven’t done enough.”

Could it be Shankland?

This has indeed been a positive transfer window for Rangers on the whole, although supporters would love to see a new striker signed.

Diomande looks a very talented prospect in central midfield, while Silva will provide another option in the final third for the next three months.

Jefte’s arrival has been delayed, but that should not matter all that much at this stage anyway.

If one more player is to be signed, Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland will no doubt be high on the wishlist of many fans.

Philippe Clement’s current squad, if the window was to close right now, is capable of pushing Celtic all the way for the title.

With Shankland also at Ibrox, though, the Gers can genuinely consider themselves the favourites on the basis of what Clement has done so far.

Regardless of what happens on deadline day, Clement will no doubt continue working wonders with what he has.
