Leicester City have received an enquiry from Sheffield United for Harry Souttar, according to Football Insider.

Sheffield United have made an approach to the Championship club regarding the availability of the 25-year-old defender. Souttar has made just three appearances for Leicester City so far this season, featuring for just 188 minutes in total.

The Australian is currently behind Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes in the pecking order at the club which has seriously hindered his minutes thus far. The Premier League side would like to sign a defender in the before the deadline shuts tomorrow, and Souttar is one of the players they have identified.

Leicester signed the player from Stoke City in January of last year for a fee of around £14.5 million according to Netsport reporter. He made 70 appearances during his time at the bet365 stadium but has played just 16 times for the Foxes since joining.

Chris Wilder’s side are currently bottom of the Premier League table, nine points behind Luton Town in 17th who have a game in hand. The 54 goals they’ve conceded is the single worst in the entire division, with the closest team to that conceding 42 goals.

The former Celtic defender is not the only player the club have registered an interest in within this transfer window, with Everton’s Mason Holgate and Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall also two players they admire.

Souttar has previous experience in the top flight given he was relegated with Leicester last season, featuring a total of 12 times. He is currently on international duty with Australia at the Asia Cup and has played 90 minutes in all five of their fixtures so far, scoring once against Indonesia.

If the Socceroos get to the final of the competition, the 25-year-old will not be due back in England until after February 10th. They face North Korea next in the quarter-finals on Friday.

The Blades face Aston Villa at home on Saturday, before a trip away to Luton Town on the day of the Asia Cup final. If the deal is successful, the Aberdeen-born player could make his debut for the side at Bramall Lane against Brighton on February 18th but it is all dependent on how far Australia get in the tournament.
