Rangers in late-night talks to seal yet another new signing – report

Rangers were locked in overnight talks with Lens over a loan deal for Oscar Cortes as he edges closer to a move to Ibrox before the January deadline, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper shared via their print edition [30 January, back page] that talks had taken place between the two clubs overnight, as the Ibrox club continue their pursuit.

Cortes has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers in recent days, with some reports suggesting he was already travelling to Glasgow, but those rumours have since been squashed with negotiations ongoing.

One to watch

As the window draws closer to closing, Rangers appear to be doing all they can to push this deal through with talks taking place around the clock with the ambition of getting a loan move over the line.

Any deal to bring Cortes to Ibrox seems likely to be with an obligation to buy in the summer, meaning Rangers can offset the costs for this transfer window and begin their summer with the permanent addition of who they think will be an exciting player.

The winger has made just four Ligue 1 appearances so far this season, contributing to one goal and one assist, having spent last season on loan at Millonarios in Colombia – the team he moved to Lens from on a permanent deal in 2022.

Wingers have been a key target for Philippe Clement this January after Michael Beale cut the squad almost entirely in that position in favour of his specialist formation which ultimately played its part in his dismissal and Clement’s subsequent arrival.
