Nigerian media deliver intriguing verdict on Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina
Nigeria reached the last eight of the African Cup of Nations last night and Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina earned praise.\
The assessment of his performance came from Soccernet.
So, what has the Nigerian media said on the showing of Forest player Aina during last night’s match? Let’s take a closer look…
Forest star Ola Aina stars for Nigeria
Well, it would appear as though the Forest player – signed on a free in the summer – has showcased his class to Nigeria at this tournament.
Aina has held down a place in the team and he’s repaying the faith shown in him by his manager.
Nigeria defeated Cameroon 2-0 with Ademola Lookman scoring both goals for the Super Eagles.
It was Forest defender Aina who earned praise, however, with the media delivering an intriguing verdict.
Soccernet gave him a 7/10 and claimed: “The Nottingham Forest full-back was locked in with his duels. He won all of the tackles he went into and nearly got an assist for himself after his well-placed cross almost found Osimhen. His confident purple patch grew a shade darker as he showcased his flair without needing to fret.”
Aina can claim Reds place after AFCON exploits
Since arriving at the club, the 27-year-old has been largely impressive for Forest, playing on the right and left of the defence.
Aina has made 14 appearances for Forest during 2023/24 and on a free, he’s proved a very decent piece of business.
With Harry Toffolo on the left and Gonzalo Montiel on the right, he won’t find it easy to reclaim his place in the team when he returns.
However, he does perhaps offer something that the other full-backs don’t with tenacious tackling and a desire to get forward.
It’s great to see that Aina has been doing well with Nigeria and he will be eying his place back when he returns to Forest.
