Exclusive: Late signing plot reveals Celtic agreement fails

Celtic do not plan to make any more signings this month following the addition of Nicolas Kuhn, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Hoops board and Brendan Rodgers are happy with the state of the squad following the addition of the German.

They are also expecting a swathe of returnees from the Asian Cup, including Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda, who are set to be back in Glasgow by mid-February at the latest.

As revealed by Football Insider last week (19 January), the Hoops had been making progress on a deal for Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden this month.

However, this transfer now looks to be off the cards and their January business is expected to come to an end.

Kuhn will be the club’s only winter addition after joining on a five-year deal for a reported £3million from Austrian side Rapid Vienna.

Celtic could still see further departures this month following Nat Phillips’ loan cancellation, Yosuke Ideguchi’s move to Vissel Kobe and the confirmed loan moves of Adam Montgomery, Johnny Kenny and Kwon Hyeok-kyu.

As revealed by Football Insider (22 January), the Hoops are ready to accept an offer for goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist before the close of the transfer window amid interest from across Europe.

They also received an offer from La Liga side Atletico Madrid for starman Matt O’Riley, but Rodgers confirmed that the club has rejected the offer and had no plans to sell him this month.

Celtic sit top of the league in Scotland and recently progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup after their win against Buckie Thistle.

They are next back in league action against Ross County at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon (27 January).
