Matt Targett -hamstring surgery is expected to be sidelined for three months
Targett underwent hamstring surgery early December and is expected to be sidelined for three months. Possible return date: Wolves (H) 02/03
Newcastle United hope their injury list will ease in the coming weeks with some key players on course for a return to action.
Magpies’ head coach Eddie Howe was without 11 senior players for the 3-2 defeat to Manchester City last time out. A major blow was confirmed on Tuesday with Joelinton ruled out until May after undergoing thigh surgery.
Following their two-week Premier League winter break, Howe’s men head to Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening, and it is hoped that fixture is the start of numerous players returning from injury.
Jacob Murphy was back in light training a fortnight ago, while Wilson is expected to be in a better shape fitness wise after missing the last three matches because of a thigh issue.
And both Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock have teased their respective returns. United have been without Barnes since the 8-0 win at Sheffield United in September. Willock has been troubled by an Achilles issue this season.
