14 months after the Rangers bullet, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Godson is the target of Ross Wilson.
Giovanni Reyna – who is named after Godfather and ex-Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst – is being eyed by Ross Wilson at Nottingham Forest.
The Borussia Dortmund talent, 21, has been linked with a loan switch to the Premier League side after a series of injuries have disrupted his initially promising career.
The son of former Rangers midfielder Claudio Reyna, the young USA international is named after Giovanni van Bronckhorst after a friendship between the Dutchman and his father blossomed in Scotland.
And in an interesting turn of events, the man who gave Giovanni Reyna’s Godfather the bullet at Ibrox is now trying to convince him to join Nottingham Forest.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims discussions are ongoing about a loan deal with Giovanni Reyna open to a switch to the City Ground.
Once tipped for the very top of the game, Rangers of course faced off against Reyna in the Europa League Final run as he came back from an injury with Borussia Dortmund.
No matter what happens, we’re sure Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be rooting for the midfielder with those strong family ties running deeper than football.
Whilst we’re not quite sure if there is any bad blood between Ross Wilson and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the latter certainly has more credit with the Rangers support.

Ross Wilson was the sporting director of Rangers during the reign of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with both parties having now left Ibrox.
Wilson – who joined Rangers in October 2019 – selected Giovanni van Bronckhorst to take over in Govan after the exit for Steven Gerrard in November 2021.
But almost exactly a year later the ex-Southampton director of football was delivering Gio his jotters with the ex-Feyenoord coach sacked just months after reaching a Europa League Final.
Ross Wilson didn’t last too much longer himself, with the former Rangers recruitment chief’s record in the transfer market spawning protests from the fans.
Jumping ship in April 2023 when Nottingham Forest came knocking, Wilson’s handling of player contracts has since been berated by new Rangers manager Philippe Clement.
