Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the loan signing of Gio Reyna, it is claimed.

Recent reports have claimed that the Reds are ‘in talks’ to sign the American midfielder with Aston Villa also said to be interested. The 21-year-old has scored 17 goals and assisted another 16 for Dortmund since making his debut for the Bundesliga club in January 2020.

Now, ESPN report that Forest have reached an agreement to sign Reyna on loan which will include the option for a permanent transfer. However, fresh interest has emerged from Marseille who the report claims have reached a similar agreement alongside two unnamed clubs.

The USA international is reportedly ‘determined’ to leave the club during the current window. His agent, Jorge Mendes and father, Claudio, are said to be working hard to secure a move for Reyna in the coming weeks, whether it is on loan or on a permanent basis.

Dortmund would reportedly want around €15million for a permanent transfer according to ESPN. The German club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has recently called on Reyna to put his poor run of form and fitness behind him and step up his contribution for them in the second half of the season.

“Gio had a difficult time and was often injured,” Kehl told Sky Sports Germany. “It’s not easy because of the line-up we have in the centre. I can understand that he may be dissatisfied at the moment. But it’s also important for him to step on the gas.”

Reyna would become head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s first signing of the January transfer window. Forest’s B-team ranks were boosted with the arrival of young defender Jamie Newton from Rangers earlier in the month.
