Newcastle close to signing Manchester City midfielder Alfie Harrison

Newcastle are “closing on an agreement” with Manchester City to sign midfielder Alfie Harrison, according to a report from the Daily Mail (printed edition, 24 January, page 66). 

The Magpies are looking to add a new midfielder to their ranks in January, and they were heavily linked with a move to Kalvin Phillips. However, Phillips is now on his way to joining West Ham United.

Newcastle have moved quickly and are looking to secure a deal for the 18-year-old highly-rated midfielder. As per David Ornstein, the Magpies have even agreed an undisclosed fee to sign the midfielder.

The young midfielder has excelled for City at the academy level, and he will become the first arrival for the Magpies this month. Harrison is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days and is expected to sign a long-term contract.

Exciting talent

Harrison is an exciting young midfielder who has proved his quality at his age level, drawing comparisons with City’s prolific senior striker Erling Haaland for their visual resemblance.

He has got impressive goal and assist statistics, having scored eight goals in 11 appearances for the Under-18 side this season.
