Proposed Trade Idea Between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Boston Celtics

Published

on

The direction the Memphis Grizzlies go at this year’s trade deadline will be very interesting. Likely no longer a playoff contender after the season ending injury for Ja Morant, Memphis is a fringe play-in team at best. That said, Memphis is not like most teams around them in the standings, because they are undoubtedly a playoff team when healthy.

Because this is where the Grizzlies are at, it can be hard to predict how they plan to approach the deadline. Does Memphis opt to trade some of their role players who are coveted by contenders? Or do they retool and bring in pieces that can help build out the roster around Morant next season?

The likeliest course of action for Memphis seems to be holding onto whoever is the likeliest to help them contend next season, while dealing only from their collection of players who do not project to be in a fully-healthy rotation next year. One of those players is versatile guard John Konchar, who ESPN’s Bobby Marks proposed as a possible option for the Boston Celtics:

While he is limited offensively, Konchar is a great athlete and defender. That said, he is likely behind multiple Grizzlies guards in a fully-healthy rotation, which could lead to Memphis dealing him now while his value to a contender may net something in return that can help Memphis retool for next season.
